I think it's the act of presenting rather than where they were from. 
Myself, I would have thought a mission to somewhere to get flowers would have been better, it would have made the flower thing more meaningful.
But since it's possible to pass Art Class in Chapter 1 (my favorite class), and the school grounds are on Lock-down, they had to stick the flowers on-campus.

You actually need flowers in order to start "Carnival Date".
If you don't, it won't start. This is because Jimmy gives Pinky flowers in the cutscene. Pretty pointless though.

I didn't even discover the flowers outside of the Girl's Dorm before I transfered to Scholarship Edition. I had no idea.

The game itself seems a bit unrealistic. If this was real life,  Jimmy would be crushed in some of the boss battles! He doesn't really know how to box, he wouldn't win against Norton with his hammer unless he had one of his own, and wouldn't beat Edgar so easily. He's like superman, or John Cena. I say Cena because he always wins and is extremely difficult to like because of his lack of charisma.

Also, having read through the entirety of this thread, I can confirm that the idiot award of 2007 goes to... Stabbo! Really, he's immature and loves the sound of his own voice.

He would be destroyed so quickly even by the Bullies, also, you're expected to use weapons a lot in Norton's boss fight, rather than trying to punch him.
